Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

A part of me was trying to brace myself for a OBHWF ending, or at the very least, an R/Hr ending. What I had not braced myself for was the amount of venom JK Rowling was going to spit at us H/Hr shippers. The characters, in terms of how they interacted ship wise threw me as well. Here's a list of what really irked me:

- The R/Hr relationship suddenly became eerily similar to what H/Hr had been in books 1 to 5. The nonverbal communication, Ron protecting Hermione, Ron giving Harry reproachful looks for upsetting Hermione. Hey, JK, you wrote H/Hr that way, remember?

- Hermione gushing over Ron. Hermione's a brilliant young woman, so when did she become a Ron fangirl? I'm sure early years Hermione would have been appalled at DH Hermione's behavior. Also, the R/Hr kiss after Ron remembered the house elves? Um, Who's been kind to the house elves since CoS? Harry!

- The lack of a solid reason for Harry being so obsessed with Ginny. He basically just kept thinking about how beautiful she was and the way she kisses.

- The scene where Ron saw evil versions of H/Hr kissing. Is that JK's way of saying H/Hr is wrong? Which leads me to..

- Harry saying he loves Hermione like a sister and always had. And if that wasn't bad enough he said Hermione probably felt the same way. I'm sorry, but after all those years of touches, looks, and always thinking and worrying about each other, I don't accept that bullshit excuse that H/Hr is like a sibling relationship.

- The epilogue. Not only was it poorly written, but it suggests an extreme pettiness in Ms. Rowling. The epilogue only serves to prove at best, that OBHWF was canon, at worst, that JK needed a way to shove OBHWF down our throats as she felt we're clearly all very delusional and/or stupid for believing H/Hr would happen in canon.

That being said, there are some beautiful H/Hr moments in DH. A few of them being: Hermione beaming at Harry during Fleur & Bill's wedding, the graveyard scene, & the part where when Hermione passed by Harry, she ran her fingers through his hair and he closed his eyes.

The optimist in me says that JK might have once again been oblivious to the wonderful H/Hr moments that she once again created. The pessimist in me, which right now is pretty much the dominant voice, thinks she did it on purpose. A way to show us the tender H/Hr and then laugh at us by trying to say that it's all part of their brother/sister relationship and us thinking anything different would be very wrong.

So, I've said my peace. What do y'all think?

I{ have to say that I am in complete agreement with your reactions to the way shipping when throughout the book. There were actually moments when I tossed the book away from myself just to be rid of those scenes (mind you, I went and picked it right back up again).

There was a sort of viciousness with the way that JKR protrayed R/Hr in the book almost to the point that the characters didn't seem much like themselves in those moments.

As for Harry obsessing over Ginny - it was all really kind of shallow. He remembered how pretty she was, how nice it was to kiss her. But there was very little mention of her as an actual personality. It was all physically based.

And to be honest about the Epilouge - it read more like a piece of very bad fanfiction than as part of the story itself. And if I could ever bring myself to truly mutilate a book, I'd have cut those pages out of being.

It's so sad, but the quality of the ships in this books proves that JK was trying too hard to force OBHWF. She wrote H/Hr so naturally, and evidently according to her attitude, accidentally. She even did a superb job conveying a R/L bond through the few times we actually see them together. JK ignored the natural flow of the relationships, because she wanted to end it with OBHWF shippers no matter how forced and poorly written it would be (especially when compared to the first 5 books).
